Antonio Cifra
Antonio Cifra (* 1584 ; † October 2, 1629 in Loreto ) was an Italian conductor and composer of the Baroque.
Live and act
Antonio Cifra received his training from Giovanni Bernardino Nanino in Rome . From 1605 to 1607 he was music director of the Seminario Romano and in the same position from 1608 to 1609 at the Collegium Germanicum . From 1609 until his death, Cifra was the conductor of the "Santa Casa" in the pilgrimage town of Loreto. During this time he maintained close contacts with Roman composers, and also took part as a choirmaster at important events in St. Peter's Basilica.
Antonio Cifra left behind a large number of works of sacred vocal music, including several books of mass settings , more than ten books with polyphonic sacred and profane motets, and two volumes of instrumental works (“Ricercari e canzoni franzese”).
