Antonio Citterio

Antonio Citterio (* 1950 in Meda ) is an Italian architect .

Life

Citterio attended the Polytechnic in Milan until 1972 . After graduating in architecture , he opened his own office with Paolo Nava and worked as an industrial designer before devoting himself to architecture and the design of furnishings. In 1999 he founded the office “Antonio Citterio and Partners” with Patricia Viel in Milan. Citterio sees himself first and foremost as an architect who always sees the space itself as the basis for his product design . Since 1999 he has been teaching at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio / Switzerland , at the Domus Academy in Milan and at the “La Sapienza” University in Rome .

Citterio's designs include seating furniture, shelves, door handles, beds, kitchen equipment and complete bathrooms. He works with renowned names in international home design such as Arclinea , B&B Italia , Flexform , Kartell and Vitra . He has been designing bathroom worlds for Axor / Hansgrohe AG since 2001 . In 1979 and 1987 he received the Compasso d'Oro for his work . In 2002 the magazine “ A&W Architektur & Wohnen ”, Hamburg voted him “Designer of the Year”. In 2007 he became the “Royal Designer for Industry” in Great Britain. He has been a member of the Italian Design Council since 2007.
