Antonio Ghislanzoni (born November 25, 1824 in Barco di Maggianico ( Lecco ), † July 16, 1893 in Caprino Bergamasco , Bergamo province , Italy) was an Italian writer and librettist .

Ghislanzoni studied medicine but gave up his studies to become a stage singer. He edited several radical newspapers in Milan in 1848 and as a result had to flee after the return of the Austrians , where he fell into the hands of the French besieging Rome and was brought to Corsica . After his release, he went to Paris to resume his stage activities at the Théâtre des Italiens in 1851 .

However, since he lost his voice after three years, he returned to Italy, where he has lived as a writer ever since. In 1857 he co-founded the humorous magazine L'uomo di pietra , edited the Rivista minima for a long time , which he wrote almost alone, and later published the Giornale capriccio in Lecco .

Ghislanzoni wrote the libretti for the operas Aida and La forza del destino (new version) by Verdi .
