Antonius Mathijsen
Antonius Mathijsen (born November 4, 1805 in Budel , Netherlands , † June 15, 1878 in Hamont , Belgium ) was a Dutch doctor. In 1851 he invented the plaster cast . This has not been fundamentally changed since its invention.
Life
Antonius Mathijsen was the son of the surgeon Ludovicus Hermanus (Lodewijk Herman) Mathijsen and his wife Petronella Bogaers. He completed his studies in Brussels and was a ship surgeon in the Dutch Navy. In the service there he invented the plaster cast.
In 1941 the Netherlands honored Mathijsen with a stamp.
