Aoids

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aoide ( Greek  Ἀοιδή ) is one of the so-called "titanic" muses in Greek mythology (in contrast to the nine muses known by Hesiod that are common today ). She was the muse of song and music. Her sisters at Pausanias are Mneme (memory) and Melete (practice). Cicero names Thelxinoe (the heart-pleasing), Arche (the beginning) and Melete as sisters . With him they are daughters of Zeus and the nymph Plusia .

The moon Aoede of the planet Jupiter and the ancient Greek poet Aöde are named after Aoide .
