Mneme ( Greek Μνήμη , "memory") is one of the so-called "titanic" muses in Greek mythology (in contrast to the nine muses known by Hesiod ). She is the muse of memory . Her sisters at Pausanias are Aoide (muse of music) and Melete (muse of meditation, exercise and practice).

The Jupiter moon Mneme is named after Mneme , which was discovered in 2003 and first known under the name S / 2003 J 21. The name can also be found in the term mnemonics .

The zoologist Richard Semon took the view that acquired traits can be inherited and applied this to social evolution , for which he suggested the term "mneme" and later influenced research by Karl Lashley ( engram ) and Richard Dawkins ( meme ).
