Klio (muse)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Klio (engraving by Virgil Solis from P. Ovidii Metamorphosis from 1562).

Klio , Kleio or Clio ( ancient Greek Κλειώ Kleiō , the glorifier, from small κλεῖν , “to boast”, “to praise”) is one of the nine muses in Greek mythology . She is the muse of heroic poetry and history . In some mythological writings, however, she is also referred to as the muse of the lyre game .

Like all muses, Klio is a daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne . Klio had a son, Hyacinth , with Pierus , king of Macedonia (in other sources also Oibalus of Sparta or Amyklas ) . Some sources also make Klio the mother of Hymenaios . Others tell of her as the mother of Linus of Argos .

The attributes of Klio are the papyrus scroll and a stylus . Klio is the patron saint of historians .
