Melete (mythology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Melete ( ancient Greek Μελέτη , exercise, practice ) is one of the so-called "titanic" muses in Greek mythology (in contrast to the nine muses known by Hesiod ). She was the muse of meditation, exercise and practice. Her sisters at Pausanias are Aoide (song) and Mneme (memory). Cicero names the sisters Thelxinoe (the heart-pleasing), Arche (the beginning) and Aoide (the song). With him they are daughters of Zeus and the nymph Plusia .

The asteroid (56) Melete was named after her .
