Mneme (also Jupiter XL) is one of the smaller moons of the planet Jupiter .

discovery

Mneme was discovered by astronomers at the University of Hawaii on February 6, 2003 . Mneme is named after the muse Mneme .

Orbit data

Mneme orbits Jupiter at a mean distance of 21,069,000 km in 620 days and 58 minutes. The track has an eccentricity of 0.2273. With an inclination of 148.6 ° from the local Laplace plane , the orbit is retrograde; that is, the moon moves around the planet against the direction of rotation of Jupiter.

Due to its orbital properties, Mneme is assigned to the Ananke group , named after the Jupiter moon Ananke .

Physical data

Mneme has a diameter of about 2 km. The density is estimated at 2.6 g / cm³, provided that the assumption of a structure consisting mainly of silicate rock is correct. It has a very dark surface with an albedo of 0.04, i.e. that is, only 4% of the incident sunlight is reflected. Their apparent brightness is 23.3 m .
