The discovery of Fornjot by David C. Jewitt , Scott S. Sheppard , Jan Kleyna and Brian G. Marsden on recordings from December 12, 2004 to March 11, 2005, was announced on May 3, 2005.
Fornjot initially received the provisional designation S / 2004 S 8. In April 2007, the moon then after the frost giants fornjót (also Fornjot), the father of Aegir (also Ægir or counter), the Logi (also box) and Kari , from the Norse mythology named.
Orbit data
Fornjot orbits Saturn on a retrograde eccentric orbit in around 1491 days. The eccentricity of the orbit is 0.206, with the orbit inclined at 170.4 ° to the ecliptic .
