S / 2016 J 1 (also Jupiter LIV ) is one of the smaller moons of the planet Jupiter .
discovery
S / 2016 J 1 was discovered on March 8, 2016 by astronomer Scott S. Sheppard . The moon has not yet been given an official name - the moons of Jupiter are usually female figures from Greek mythology - but is provisionally referred to as S / 2016 J 1 in accordance with the system of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
Orbit data
S / 2016 J 1 orbits Jupiter with a major semi-axis of approx. 20.6 million kilometers in approx. 604 days. The track has an eccentricity of 0.140. The orbit is retrograde with a slope of 139.8 °, i.e. that is, the moon moves around the planet against the direction of rotation of Jupiter.
Physical data
Based on the brightness of the object, the diameter can be estimated to be about 1 km.
