S / 2003 J 23 is one of the smaller moons of the planet Jupiter .
discovery
S / 2003 J 23 was discovered by astronomers at the University of Hawaii on February 6, 2003 . The moon has not yet been given an official name - the moons of Jupiter are usually female figures from Greek mythology - and is therefore provisionally referred to as S / 2003 J 23 in accordance with the system of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
Orbit data
S / 2003 J 23 orbits Jupiter at a mean distance of 23,563,000 km in 732 days, 10 hours and 34 minutes. The track has an eccentricity of 0.2714. With an inclination of 146.314 ° to the ecliptic , the orbit is retrograde; that is, the moon moves around the planet against the direction of rotation of Jupiter.
Due to its orbital properties, S / 2003 J 23 is assigned to the Pasiphae group , named after the Jupiter moon Pasiphae . Its name, like all retrograde moons, will end with an 'e'.
Physical data
S / 2000 J 23 has a diameter of about 2 km. Its density is estimated at 2.6 g / cm³. It is probably made up mainly of silicate rock. It has a very dark surface with an albedo of 0.04, i.e. that is, only 4% of the incident sunlight is reflected. Its apparent brightness is 23.6 m .
