Aperol spritz

The spritz , also Sprizz or Veneziano ( Venetian Spriz , Spriss or Sprisseto ), is a mixed drink made from white wine and mineral water or Prosecco and a spirit . It is traditionally very popular in Venice and Veneto , Friuli and Trentino-South Tyrol , but is now available worldwide.

preparation

As an aperitif , the spritz is usually made from white sparkling wine from the Veneto (40 percent), soda water (30 percent) and the addition of Aperol or Campari , and more rarely with cynar , limoncello or other liqueurs . It is usually served on ice with a slice of orange or lemon. In some places the spritz is made on the basis of Prosecco (70 percent), in this case mostly without mineral water. Additions of red wine , gin or other spirits are also possible and are used in different regions.

Origin of name and distribution

The term “spritz” is likely to be a phonetic abbreviation of “spritzter” , the Austrian name for the mixture of wine and mineral or soda water, which the northern Italians adopted until 1866 when the region belonged to Austria .

In recent years, the spritz has also become known outside of Italy and has become an integral part of bar culture. Ready mixes are now available in cans or bottles with different recipes.
