Aphanus rolandri is a bug from the family of rhyparochromidae .
features
The bugs are 6.0 to 7.7 millimeters long. The black colored animals with their dark red spot at the base of the wing membrane are unmistakable.
distribution and habitat
The species is widespread in Europe, from the western part of southern Scandinavia to the Mediterranean and North Africa. The species is rarer in Eastern Europe , its range extends to western Siberia and the Caucasus . The species is not uncommon in Germany , especially in the west, in the east it is only locally documented with older finds. In Austria she only appears locally. The species colonizes dry, warm, open, but also more humid and partially shaded habitats regardless of their vegetation . It also occurs on human-influenced cultural and ruderal areas .
Way of life
The animals are presumably polyphagous , binding to certain plants has not yet been documented. They suckle on seeds on the ground, but occasionally also on carrion, such as dead arthropods, or on insect eggs. The overwintering takes place in sometimes large aggregations under the loose bark of deciduous and coniferous trees. The animals become active quickly in the spring when the temperatures are warmer and fly briskly and are also attracted by artificial light sources at night. The mating occurs mainly in May. The males die a short time later. One generation is trained every year.
