Apollonia has been a parish in the municipality of Volvi in the southeast of the Thessaloniki regional district since January 1, 2011 . Before the Kallikratis reform , Apollonia was an independent community. The seat of the former municipality was the place Nea Apollonia . The municipality was named after the ancient city of Apollonia Mygdoniorum .
