Apostle of Solitude is an American doom metal band from Indianapolis , Indiana that was formed in 2004.
history
The band was formed in the fall of 2004 after The Keep split up. In the autumn of the following year, a first self-titled demo was released, which was followed by the EP Embraced by the Black in early 2007 . The band's debut album was released via Eyes Like Snow in October 2008 under the name Sincerest Misery . A second album followed in 2010 under the name Last Sunrise via Eyes Like Snow and Profound Lore Records . During the period of the two album releases, the band also played at festivals such as the Templars of Doom, Born to Be Doomed, Born Too Late, Days of the Doomed and the Doom or Be Doomed. In early 2011 the line-up changed with the addition of bassist Bob Fouts and guitarist Steve Janiak. In the same year there were also two split publications. These should be the last two records with the basic line-up consisting of guitarist and singer Chuck Brown (formerly drummer for The Gates of Slumber ), bassist Brent McClellan, guitarist Justin Avery and drummer Corey Webb. One release was released with the Portuguese band Dawnrider on Blood & Iron Records , Raging Planet Records and Metal Soldiers Records , the other on Eyes Like Snow together with Rituals of the Oak and The Flight of Sleipnir . In the changed line-up, the band recorded a demo that was distributed in June 2012 at the Days of the Doomed festival. In late 2013, Fouts left the band and was replaced by bassist Dan Davidson. With this line-up, the band recorded their next album with producer Mike Bridavsky at Russian Recording in Bloomington , Indiana, in May 2014 , which was released in October 2014 under the name Of Woe and Wounds on Cruz del Sur Music .
style
According to Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia , the band plays classic Doom Metal in the style of Saint Vitus , Candlemass and Black Sabbath . According to Patrick Schmidt from Rock Hard , the band on Of Woe and Wounds not only process Doom Metal, but also influences from rock music of the 1970s. In an interview with Schmidt, Chuck Brown stated that the band was mainly influenced by groups like Iron Maiden , Black Sabbath and Judas Priest . Brown usually design a riff from which he would develop the respective song together with the other members. A previous issue, Wolfgang Liu Kuhn described the music on the album as Doom- Sludge , but it lacks creativity.
