Apparatjik [ æpəˈrætʃɪk ] is an international supergroup . The band consists of Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman , Mew singer and guitarist Jonas Bjerre, a-ha guitarist and keyboarder Magne Furuholmen, and music producer and drummer Martin Terefe.

The four musicians chose the Swedish word for apparatchik as the band name , which in the former Eastern Bloc states meant a party official or bureaucrat.

history

Berryman, who is an avowed a-ha fan, worked with Furuholmen back in 2004. Berryman and his Coldplay colleague Will Champion helped create Furuholmen's first solo album, Past Perfect Future Tense , which was released in 2005 . Berryman also worked again on the second solo album A Dot of Black in the Blue of Your Bliss .

Swedish producer and songwriter Martin Terefe, who was also involved in the recordings of Past Perfect Future Tense , later produced the a-ha albums Analogue (2005) and Foot of the Mountain (2009), among others .

Berryman, Furuholmen and Terefe produced together with the Danish musician Jonas Bjerre ( Mew ) with Ferreting their first song together under the name Apparatjik for the Survival-International - benefit album Songs for Survival .

After completing the piece, the four musicians produced more pieces in Furuholmen's studio, which they gradually published on their MySpace page.

In November 2009, Electric Eye was the first single to be downloaded from their website. Apparatjik had its first live appearance on February 1, 2010 at the Club transmediale in Berlin. The band played in Club WMF in a cube specially built for this gig. On the same day, the band's debut album We Are Here was released .

The second album Square Peg in a Round Hole was released in November 2011 via Apparatjik's iPad app Apparatjik World . The official release will take place on February 12, 2012. In March 2011, the track Combat Disco Music was released as a download as the first release from the album .
