Apple QuickTake was a family of digital cameras made by Apple .

Apple, in collaboration with Kodak, launched the QuickTake 100 model in 1994; it was one of the first affordable digital cameras for the mass market. The model cost the equivalent of around 750 euros at the time . The successor was the very similar QuickTake 150 .

The QuickTake 100/150 cameras were connected to the Macintosh via a serial interface . After installing additional software (floppy disks were included), the camera was controlled via a Mac OS control panel and the images were transferred to the Mac.

Floppy disks (content: system extensions, control panel, simple image processing ), a serial cable and plastic lenses for close range were included as accessories . The three mignon cells had to be bought separately.

On the back of both models there was a small monochrome LCD display that provided information about the battery status, the number of pictures, the selected resolution and the flash mode. The display of internally saved photos was not possible.

At the corners of the display were buttons for self-timer , resolution, flash mode and (recessed) delete function.

The last digital camera from Apple was developed in cooperation with Fujifilm and was named QuickTake 200 . It was released in 1996.

Production of the QuickTake cameras ceased in 1997 shortly after Steve Jobs returned to Apple.

Data format

A system expansion is required to view and open the QuickTake images, which was only available for the classic Mac OS and Windows 95 . The data format (qtk) is proprietary and is no longer supported. Such images can no longer be opened under newer operating systems such as Mac OS X. The Apple Finder does at least provide a preview. The GraphicConverter program from version 6 can also open QuickTake pictures under Mac OS X.
