Examples

Until 1918 there was a military medical application school in Vienna , where, after completing their university studies, prospective military doctors were prepared theoretically and practically for their duties in the army in a one-year course and the specialist knowledge they had acquired in civilian medicine was expanded. The school also offered advanced training courses.

In Switzerland , the specialist training of officers in the 19th century was concentrated at the central school in Thun , where an application school was set up for this purpose.

In France there were application schools for the artillery and the engineering troops (Écoles d'application de l'artillerie et du génie) , since 1802 in Metz and since 1871 in Fontainebleau , and since 1771 an application cavalry school in Saumur . These schools were created through mergers of older military schools. From 1818 to 1876 there was a first general staff academy in Paris called École d'application d'état-major . “Application schools” is a generic term in France for technical or military schools, although “application” is usually no longer used in their names. In France, Écoles d'application also stands for civilian vocational training institutions at university level.

In Italy there were application schools for artillery and engineering troops in Turin , for cavalry in Pinerolo and infantry in Parma, and for military doctors in Florence . Apart from the latter, these schools for the practice-oriented part of officer training were combined in Turin in 1951 (Scuola di applicazione) . Separate military schools continue to exist.

Today's Academy of Martial Arts in Warsaw was called the Application School for Artillery and Engineering (Szkoła Aplikacyjna Artylerii i Inżynierii) in the 19th century .

In Spanish-speaking countries, especially in Latin American countries , the name Escuela de Aplicación de Armas was or is common.
