The aqueduct of Zschopau is an aqueduct built in 1907 in Zschopau .

location

The structure is located northeast of Zschopau, where it spans the Zschopau and the Annaberg-Buchholz and Bf-Flöha railway lines .

Building

The aqueduct is 140 m long and 18 m high. It consists of a five-arched bridge with two large and three smaller arches. This is made of quarry stone masonry and provided with a wooden structure with a gable roof to protect the water. A special feature of the technical monument is that the inflowing water falls from a 420 m high gallery, and thus 82 meters above the aqueduct. After the valley cut, the water in the pressure pipes rises 79 m again to another tunnel. Although it does not completely cross under the valley, it fulfills the function of a culvert .

use

The facility is part of a long-distance water supply for Chemnitz that was built between 1903 and 1908 and is still in operation today. The " Central Ore Mountains Reservoir System " is operated by the Neunzehnhain dam of the State Reservoir Administration of Saxony , which is owned by the Free State of Saxony . The raw water transfer, in which the aqueduct is included, extending from the dam Neunzehnhain I to dam retreats over a total length of 13.17 km. It is usually guided in water tunnels or covered canals. Already in Krumhermersdorf it comes to light with the also listed aqueduct of Krumhermersdorf .
