The dam Neunzehnhain I (or Untere Neunzehnhain dam) is a dam in the Free State of Saxony . It is used for drinking water supply of Chemnitz and in conjunction with the dam system "KME" the whole coverage area of the administration union Fernwasserversorgung Südsachsen. The dam is only used to a limited extent for flood protection . It is located directly below the Neunzehnhain II dam .
The dam of the Neunzehnhain I dam is a curved gravity dam made of quarry stone masonry based on the Intze principle . The dam was built in 1905–1908 in the Bornwald below the Neunzehnhain settlement near Lengefeld in the Ore Mountains (commissioned in 1908). The dammed body of water is the Lautenbach .
As a result of the construction of the dam, the Bornwald became a drinking water protection area, whereupon all residents had to leave the Bornwaldhäuser settlement at an inlet to the Lautenbauch. Except for a forest barn that still exists today and the ruins of a spinning mill, all buildings were completely demolished.
Swimming, fishing and recreational sports in the reservoir are not possible, but you can hike around the reservoir . The Neunzehnhain I dam has a pre- dam on the Lautenbach.
The raw water is forwarded to the Einsiedel dam . The historic aqueduct of Krumhermersdorf and the historic aqueduct of Zschopau lie in the course of the raw water pipeline .
