The dam Neunzehnhain II (or Obere Neunzehnhain dam) is a dam in the Free State of Saxony . It is used for drinking water supply of Chemnitz and in conjunction with the dam system "KME" the whole coverage area of the administration union Fernwasserversorgung Südsachsen. The water of the Neunzehnhain II dam is of very high quality, probably the best in all of Saxony.
The dam is only used to a limited extent for flood protection . The dam of the Neunzehnhain II dam is a curved gravity dam made of quarry stone masonry based on the Intze principle . The dam was built in 1911–1914 in the Bornwald forest above the Neunzehnhain settlement near Lengefeld in the Ore Mountains and put into operation in 1914. The dammed waters are the Lautenbach and the Gänsebach.
From 1996 to 2000 the dam was renovated and received an additional concrete reinforcement layer and a new reinforced concrete cut-off wall on the water side.
A public path leads over the dam. Swimming, fishing and recreational sports in the reservoir are not possible, but you can hike around the reservoir.
The Neunzehnhain II dam has a pre- dam (Lautenbach) and a pre-basin (Gänsebach).
