The Aquacity is an indoor swimming pool on the Schießstattring in the city of St. Pölten .

The pool was built after a year and a half of construction at the end of 2005 from the general renovation of the old municipal indoor pool. The new bath is owned by the city of St. Pölten. The building with a total area of more than 6000 m² is located between Schießstattring (No. 15, L100) and the promenade.

Facility

The indoor pool has offers for sport, fun and wellness.

The two remaining sports pools are 25 m and 16.6 m long and are equipped with swimming lanes and diving boards. There is also a new whirlpool with floor bubbler, flow channel and a wave bay as well as a toddler area with play stream. The 72 m long Black Hole water slide offers timekeeping that also goes through under the pool.

In addition, there is a sauna area with a steam bath and solarium , a massage area and a restaurant area.

The pool is open from June to September at least 10 am to 8 pm, but closed for a shorter period on December 24th and 31st, Mondays and January 1st.

In addition to the Aquacity indoor pool, there is also the "Sommerbad Summersplash" outdoor pool in St. Pölten (as of 2014 - a combined season ticket is offered for both) and the gravel lakes in the north of the city, which have been linked by a pedestrian bridge since 2006: the Ratzersdorfer See swimming lake (free admission in addition to charging for the car parking spaces) and the near-natural Viehofen lakes with floating jetty and observation tower.

history

In 1966 the first indoor swimming pool was opened in St. Pölten. This was already at the current location. Against the background of decreasing visitor numbers and the ever smaller budget, voices were heard, especially in the 1990s, calling for a new building or renovation. These voices were only heard around the year 2000, when the city decided on a general renovation and against a new building. The architecture firm Lorenz & Partner won the architecture competition in 2002 . Construction began in early 2004 and was completed in December 2005. The cost of the renovation was around 10 million euros. At the beginning of 2006 the slide was rebuilt because of numerous injuries.

criticism

In 2007, the bath had 220,000 visitors (25,000 fewer than in 2006) and a deficit of 940,000 euros, which was covered by the city's budget.

City councilor Dietmar Fenz stated that the ticket revenues could not cover the high energy, rental and personnel costs, but "one is satisfied with the number of guests, after all, no adventure pool in Austria would cover costs". City councilor Bernhard Wurzer sees the reasons in "bad planning", specifically in "poor choice of location and size", there are "no concrete plans for a way out, the bathroom will not be closed."
