Andreas Speit

Andreas Speit (* 1966 in Bad Harzburg ) is a German journalist and publicist living in Hamburg , author and editor of numerous books on the subjects of right-wing extremism and neo-Nazism in Europe. He is considered one of the best experts on the right-wing extremist scene in Germany .

Live and act

After training and working as a curative educator , Andreas Speit studied social sciences at the Hamburg University for Economics and Politics and graduated in 1996 with a degree in social economics with a thesis on Paul Förster .

According to his own account, he wrote his first article as a freelance journalist about dealing with disabled people and convinced Nazi doctors after 1945. Since 1991 he has been writing regularly for the daily newspaper (taz) about right-wing extremism, especially in the areas of esoteric rights , intellectual right-wing extremism and German nationalism and militant neo-Nazism. Since 2005 his weekly column "The Right Edge" has been published in the taz Nord , for which in 2012 he received the special sound award for journalists . Right-wing extremism was recognized in the mirror of the media . He is a co-winner of the “ Grimme Online Award 2008” for the Zeit Online -Portal Störungsmelder , for which he has been analyzing, documenting and commenting on the current developments of the New Right and neo-Nazism in Germany since 2007 . He can also be found in the newspapers Junge Welt , Jungle World and Freitag as well as in the political features section of Deutschlandradio . In addition, he writes on a voluntary basis for various projects such as u. a. Network against Nazis initiated by the weekly newspaper Die Zeit as well as the information portal Blick nach Rechts and the magazine Der Rechts Rand . From 2006 to 2010 Speit was one of the authors of the dossier on right-wing extremism at the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb).

Together with the journalist Andrea Röpke , he has published numerous books on the topics of right-wing extremism and neo-Nazis as an author and editor. a. 2013 blood and honor. The past and present of right-wing violence in Germany , about which Harald Bergsdorf writes in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the aim of the book is not only to analyze the murders of the NSU terror group , but also “to shed light on the historical background of right-wing terror and to shed light on its current environment . ”“ The authors present a meticulous and solid book that summarizes important information about the past and present of right-wing extremism and right-wing terrorism in the Federal Republic. Speit is one of the most renowned experts on right-wing extremism in Germany, who is quoted and interviewed in numerous media and received by scientists and other specialist authors. Speit is a speaker at state centers for political education , the German Trade Union Confederation , the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the ARD / ZDF media academy .
