The East Boston Tunnel opened in 1904, followed by the Aquarium station in 1906 - albeit under the name Atlantic Avenue - and connected the elevated railway with the tunnel. On February 13, 1967, the station was renamed Aquarium as part of the takeover by the MBTA .
