from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Arabas Cirque Jeunesse is a Swiss children's and youth circus based in Bremgarten in Aargau . Almost 50 children and young people aged seven and over train through various circus disciplines throughout the year in order to present them from the beginning of August to mid-September in the circus tent in neighboring Zufikon and at external performances. For a large number of performances, the Arabas leads a circus orchestra made up of young people, parents of the circus children and volunteers.

history

Since 1984 the youth circus Biber existed not far from Bremgarten in Arni AG . After a considerable number of children, young people and trainers from Bremgarten joined the Biber in 1993, a “Bremgarten faction” soon separated from the Biber and on January 9, 1996 founded the Arabas Cirque Jeunesse, its own circus based in Bremgarten. The statutes define the purpose of the association as "enabling children, young people and adults to deal with the circus world in a variety of ways in a professional environment", with which the association wants to make "a socio-cultural contribution to the community". The club has been chaired by the Bremgarten teacher Martin Indlekofer since it was founded.

The name Arabas was created by the children of the first circus season and is based on the name of the magician Tarabas from the fairy tale film series Princess Fantaghirò .

In the first ten years or so, the initially modest infrastructure was set up for a few days in Bremgarten and then in Muri AG , and later also in Bremgarten and Widen . Until 2003, the location in Bremgarten was a meadow, which has now been built over, by the centrally located “Sunnemärt” shopping center, where on August 9, 1996 the first premiere in the history of Arabas was presented. Since 2004 Chapiteau and carriage situated on a meadow near the Emauskapelle in Zufikon.

Shortly after it was founded in 1996, the youth circus had four caravans, seven single and two-axle vehicles and a tractor. The big top was initially rented. Five years after it was founded, the circus had its own tent. Since 2010, the Arabas has had a four-masted big top that can accommodate around 270 visitors.

Program and disciplines

At Arabas, the various artistic numbers are embedded in a story that runs as a red thread through the program. In some cases, existing stories are adapted (e.g. Ali Baba 2012 or Alice in Wonderland 2014), and often their own are also designed.

The disciplines trained for a year and presented during the season can vary depending on the interests of the artists; be trained on a regular basis acrobatics , Circustheatre ( clown ), aerial straps , juggling , diabolo , Cyr wheel , inputs and Kunstrad , swing rope, trapezoidal , tightrope , Rhönrad , silks acrobatics and Rola-Rola . The number training sessions are led by parents and former circus artists, occasionally with professional support such as the artist Johannes Muntwyler from Circus Monti or the aerial acrobats Jason Brügger (strapaten) or Maja Weiller ( aerial silk ).

In addition to the season, smaller and larger groups of Arabas artists are regularly employed for external performances in the Bremgarten region and beyond.

Circus school

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Arabas founded the “Circus World” in 2016, a circus school in which professional trainers and former Arabas artists train various circus disciplines. In contrast to the circus business of the Arabas, the training of the circus world is not followed by regular performances.

financing

The Arabas Cirque Jeunesse is financed through donations, donations from sponsors and parents and is significantly supported by the city of Bremgarten and the municipality of Zufikon. The performances during the season, external appearances, the sale of advertisements for the program and the rental of the infrastructure generate further income. A significant part of the indirect financing of the circus is the cooperation of parents and volunteers (e.g. training management, catering and maintenance of the infrastructure).
