action

Pilot Sean Pachowski flies a chartered light aircraft to an excavation site. On board are paleontology professor Mugford, his assistant Chandra, and students Trina, Kelly and Deke. When the plane gets into a meteor shower and a larger one hits the earth right in front of the machine, Sean loses control and crashes in an uninhabited area. All inmates survived relatively unharmed and started looking for shelter for the night. They find a supposedly abandoned farm in which they quarter. Shortly thereafter, farmer Moses Cobb, the owner of the house, arrives and wants to catch the supposed burglars. After the situation has been explained to him, he leads Professor Mugford's group into the barn to show them a dead specimen of a giant spider that Moses' grandfather allegedly demonstrated alive at fairs. Mugford dismisses the animal as a fake.

During the night Trina and Kelly see a huge spider appear in front of their window, Moses also sees something that he identifies as such. The next morning, Sean and Moses set out to investigate the impact crater of the meteorite that crashed the plane. Once there, they realize that the impact uncovered an underground cave system. When they want to investigate the cave, they are attacked by a huge spider, which pulls Moses inside the cave. Sean escapes into the house, where the group tries to barricade themselves. Deke is attacked and killed by the monsters when he tries to get the professor out of the barn. The others hide in the house, armed with rifles, dynamite and Molotov cocktails . During the night they are attacked by a large number of the giant spiders. Most of the attackers can be killed or driven away. However, a spider manages to get into the house underground and kidnap Kelly. The professor suspects that Kelly is used by the giant spiders as a living host animal .

The group sets out to save Kelly. Chandra calls her father, Colonel Weaver, beforehand and pretends to have been molested by the professor. With this story she wants to get him to come to them because she thinks he would dismiss the story with the giant spiders as a fairy tale. When they reach the cave, Sean, Chandra and Trina go inside while the professor tries to escape. However, he is caught by the monster spiders after just a few meters. Inside the cave, the other three discover an even larger specimen of the spider, which they identify as a queen about to lay eggs. Trapped in a huge spider web, they discover Moses and Kelly. When Sean Kelly cuts away, Moses' body rips apart and countless little spiders come out. Sean, Chandra and Trina flee with Kelly outside, where Chandra's father has already arrived with an army unit. The soldiers storm the cave and destroy the monsters and their queen.

When the army withdraws again and supposedly all spiders have been destroyed, several smaller specimens crawl out of the earth not far from the destroyed cave.

reception

“Inspired by the horror B-movies of the 50s and 60s, dummies and stop motion are used here instead of computer animation. However, like the other effects, these are at the lowest level, so they are very amusing to watch. The actors also seem to make a real effort. The characters are thrown together very differently. The two chubby girls are so incredibly stupid that they must be a grenade in bed, if the adage is true. Accordingly, a number of stupid sayings are made that provide entertaining entertainment. Of course, eroticism and a pinch of humor should not be missing in such a work, so that trash fans get their money's worth. "

“Initially lame, later quite entertaining trash, which lets its lousy mimes say and do stupid things in a devious way. Conclusion Ugh, spider: hair-raising botch. "
