Araik Karenowitsch Ambarzumow ( Russian Араик Каренович Амбарцумов ; born August 22, 1986 in Tashkent , Uzbek SSR ) is a former Russian boxer from Pyatigorsk .
Career
Araik Ambarzumow was a featherweight boxer and won the silver medal at the World University Championships in Kazakhstan in 2006 . In 2008 he became Russian champion and also won the silver medal at the European Championships in England in 2008 . He failed in the final to Wassyl Lomatschenko . For the 2009 World Championships , however, Sergei Wodopjanow was sent in his weight class , who also failed in the World Cup final to Lomatschenko. In May 2009 Ambartsumow beat the future professional world champion Carl Frampton at a tournament . From 2009 to 2014 he boxed lightweight at the Russian championships, but did not achieve a medal placement.
