The ARCA-SWISS Photo Technik AG is a Swiss manufacturer of high quality professional cameras and photographic accessories based in Wollerau . The Arca-Swiss International is in Besancon in France resident.
history
The company was founded in 1926 by Alfred Oschwald in Zurich . After his departure, the company was renamed the Oschwald Brothers, Mechanical Workshop and Repair Workshop for Cameras .
Arca-Swiss built the first professional cameras in the 1950s. The Oschwald brothers decided to develop their own camera system based on the principle of the optical bench . The name of the new model is composed of the acronym A ll- R ound- CA meras which is to describe the versatility of the system, and the designation of origin together. In 1952 the prototype of the Arca-Swiss , a view camera for the format 6 × 9 cm, was built. A new model for the 9 × 12 cm format followed.
Special cameras have now also been manufactured for the view camera models, such as the rotocamera ( panorama cameras for 360 ° recordings) and telescopic sight cameras ( shot control camera GR-81). Other types were added, such as B. the handheld camera SW45 in the 1960s . Unusual constructions like the 6 × 9 and 4 × 5 " reflex cameras were produced in small numbers until the end of the 1970s.
In 1964 the tripod head monoball appeared , which is still manufactured in modified forms and is considered to be one of the most stable ball heads on the market. All Arca-Swiss tripod heads are now available with different interchangeable systems and panorama functions. The Arca-Swiss exchange system has developed into a quasi-standard, numerous manufacturers of tripod heads offer compatible systems for a wide variety of applications.
Production of the classic camera line from the A, B and C series continued until 1984. In that year Philippe Vogt acquired the company and also took over its management. This involved a complete overhaul of the product line.
In 1999 the company headquarters was relocated to Besançon, France, and Arca-Swiss International was founded. Arca-Swiss Phototechnik AG is based in Wollerau (Switzerland).
In 2003 Arca-Swiss Phototechnik AG was awarded the Swiss Design Prize for its misura , the smallest and lightest large-format system camera . In 2009 the Rm3d received the red dot design award .
