Arcanobacterium is a genus of slender, irregularly shaped rod bacteria. They are 0.3–0.8 µm wide and 1–5 µm long. Their ends are partly club-shaped. They are immobile, acid unstable, and facultatively anaerobic . They grow slowly and are sometimes stored in a V-formation. Later, complete hemolysis and partially cocoid forms appear.
A. pyogenes plays an important role as a pus pathogen in ruminants, but also in other animal species. With the help of dipping agents , the stress on the animal can be reduced significantly.
