Archeology in the Rhineland is a specialist journal of the LVR Office for Land Monument Preservation in the Rhineland (LVR-ABR) , which has been published annually since 1988 and which summarizes the most important results of archaeological excavations in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhineland .

In the journal Archeology in the Rhineland publish archaeologists , paleontologists , soil conservationists and scientists in neighboring departments preliminary reports on important, different eras dedicated excavations from the Rhineland. Take into account both research excavations at universities and polluter-funded excavations of specialist companies and excavations of LVRS of the previous year. The articles in the form of short essays that are also understandable for laypeople are considered preliminary reports and therefore do not have the character of a scientific publication.

history

In September 1987, the archaeologist Harald Koschik moved from Bavaria to Bonn as the first director of the then Rhenish Office for Ground Monument Preservation (RAB). One of his ideas was to establish an archaeological yearbook in the Rhineland , corresponding to the " Archaeological Year in Bavaria " that has been published since 1981 . In 1988, after his first year in office, the first volume of "Archeology in the Rhineland" was published. The editions 1987 (yearbook 1988) to 1999 (yearbook 2000) were published by Rheinland-Verlag Cologne. The respective volume has been produced by Konrad Theiss Verlag since 2001 . The respective head of the LVR office is responsible for the preservation of monuments in the Rhineland as the publisher. Erich Claßen has held this office since the beginning of 2019 .

Annual volumes of other authorities and federal states

In addition to Bavaria and the Rhineland, LWL-Aräologie für Westfalen and the monument authorities of other German federal states also publish similar, annually appearing magazines. The yearbook "hessenArchäologie" has been published in Hessen since 2001 .
