Archer Mangueira

Augusto Archer de Sousa Mangueira (born February 26, 1962 in Luanda ) is an Angolan politician of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA).

Life

After attending school, Augusto Archer de Sousa Mangueira completed a course of study at the "Bruno Leuschner" School of Economics in East Berlin . In 1981 he was elected a member of the Popular Assembly (Assembleia Popular) of the Luanda Province for the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA) . In 1989 he became a lecturer at the Economics Faculty of the Universidade Agostinho Neto and was subsequently, among other things, technical advisor for studies and planning of the National Electricity Company EDEL (Empresa Nacional de Electricidade de Angola) and administrative director of the health company Clínica Multiperfil . He then was Senior Assistant and Economic Advisor to President José Eduardo dos Santos and finally coordinator of the Technical Group of the Council of Ministers. After he was State Secretary and Vice Minister for Trade, he became a member of the National Commission for Rural Development and Poverty Reduction (Comissão Nacional de Desenvolvimento Rural e Combate à Pobreza) . In 2012 Mangueira became President of the Trade Commission of the capital Luanda

On September 5, 2016, Mangueira was appointed Minister of Finance (Ministro das Finanças) in his cabinet by President José Eduardo dos Santos as the successor to Armando Manuel as part of a government reshuffle. After João Lourenço was sworn in as the new President of Angola on September 26, 2017 , he continued to take over the office of Finance Minister in its cabinet on September 28, 2017. Manuel Domingos Augusto as Foreign Minister and Salviano de Jesus Sequeira as Defense Minister were also appointed to this cabinet , while Interior Minister Angelo de Barros da Veiga Tavares also retained his office. He was also active as President of the Handball Federation (Federação Angolana de Andebol) and is also Vice President of the National Olympic Committee COA ( Comité Olímpico Angolano ) . He is also a member of the MPLA Central Committee.
