The Arctic Pacific Lakes Provincial Park is a 13,887  ha large provincial park in Canada's British Columbia . The park was founded in 2000 and is located in the north of the Interior Plateau , in the Fraser-Fort George Regional District . The closest major settlement is Prince George in the northeast.

The reserve is located on the McGregor Plateau , a sub-plateau of the Interior Plateau. The park is on the North American continental divide and the lakes in the park drain into different oceans. The Arctic Lake drains over the Parsnip River into the Peace River and that then over the Slave River and Mackenzie River into the Arctic Ocean . The Portage Lake and the Pacific Lake drained by the Bad River (James Creek) and Herrick Creek in the McGregor River and then over the Fraser River in the Pacific Ocean .

The Arctic Pacific Lakes Provincial Park is a Category II ( National Park ) protected area .

history

As with almost all provincial parks in British Columbia, this one too was the hunting and fishing area of ​​various First Nations tribes long before the area was settled by European immigrants or it became part of a park . Old First Nations trade routes also crossed the park. This also took Alexander MacKenzie for the first crossing of North America north of Mexico to the west to the Pacific Ocean in the year 1793rd

The park was established on June 29, 2000 by the Protected Areas of British Columbia Act , along with 28 other parks.
