The McGregor River is a right tributary of the Fraser River in the Canadian province of British Columbia .

The McGregor River has its origin in Wishaw Lake, 2094  m above sea level, at McGregor Pass in the Canadian Rocky Mountains . Its headwaters are in the Kakwa Provincial Park and Protected Area . At the beginning it flows south between the two mountains Wishaw Mountain and Mount Sir Alexander , then turns to the northwest, takes up Kitchi Creek from the right and turns briefly to the southwest, and then turns in its main flow direction in the middle reaches to the northwest. It now flows in a mountain valley that runs parallel to the valley of the Fraser River. To the east are the Rocky Mountains and to the west the McGregor Range , which is part of the Interior Plateau . Eventually the McGregor River meets its main tributary, Herrick Creek , and turns west in its lower reaches. It reaches the Fraser River 55 km northeast of Prince George . The McGregor River has a length of about 180 km. At the 08KB003 gauge (at the lower reaches) the mean discharge for a catchment area of 4780 km² is 214 m³ / s.

The middle reaches of the McGregor River lies in the transition area between the southern and northern parts of the Rocky Mountain Trench . This continues to the north in the valley of the Parsnip River . In the south it extends along the upper reaches of the Fraser River.

The river was named after the surveyor Captain James Herrick McGregor, who in 1915 in World War I fell at the second battle of Ypres in Flanders, Belgium.
