The Arctic Umiaq Line , or Arctic Umiaq for short , or AUL for short , is a passenger and freight shipping company in Greenland . The name Umiaq from the Kalaallisut language , which is spoken by around 50,000 people in Greenland and describes a large boat, has been incorporated into the name of the shipping company . The Arctic Umiaq Line is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal Arctic Line .
history
The Arctic Umiaq Line was founded in 2006. The Arctic Umiaq Line was already making losses in 2007, and in the first nine months of 2009 the company carried fewer passengers than in the same period of the previous year.
commitment
The Sarfaq Ittuk , the shipping company's only ship, is in service from the end of April to the beginning of January. In 2010 the company had 40 employees who operate a ship on the Ilulissat - Narsaq route along the coast of West and Southwest Greenland.

Sarfaq Ittuk
The company's only ship at the moment is the Sarfaq Ittuk . The ship was built in 1992 at the Danish Ørskov Staalskibsværft in Frederikshavn and modernized in 2000 in the Polish shipyard Stocznia Gdańska . The ship has a capacity of 249 passengers, with 52 two-bed cabins. There are also 145 simple loungers for a very short stay on the two lower decks. The Sarfaq Ittuk has a length of 72.80 meters.
Former ship
The Sarpik Ittuk , the traffic between the Upernavik Archipelago , the region around the Uummannaq Fjord and Disko Bay made sure was the Nova Cruising, a shipping company on the 2006 Bahamas sold. Disko Line has been calling Disko Bay since 2010 under a government contract, while the transport services between the Upernavik Archipelago and Uummannaq Fjord are ensured by occasional trips by cargo and ferry ships of the Royal Arctic Line .
