Ardmore is a whiskey distillery in Kennethmont , Aberdeenshire , Scotland . The distillery buildings are classified in category B in the Scottish monument lists.
history
The distillery on the outskirts of Kennethmont was founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher. In 1955 it was expanded from two to four and in 1974 from four to eight stills . In 1976, Allied Breweries took over the William Teacher & Sons company and with it the distillery and closed the malt house . Allied Breweries became Allied Distillers in 1987 following the takeover of Hiram Walker and Allied Domecq in 1993 following the takeover of Pedro Domecq . On July 5, 2005, the spirits company Pernod Ricard Allied Domecq took over the distillery. However, in order to meet the requirements of the Cartel Office, they had to part with Ardmore , so that Beam Global Spirits & Wine , a subsidiary of Fortune Brands , is the new owner of the distillery and the cooperage that belongs to it . In January 2014, the takeover of "Beam Global" by the Japanese beverage company Suntory became known. This means that Ardmore also becomes the property of the Japanese group. Until about the year 2000, the stills were still fired directly with coal.
From 1817 to 1835 there was a distillery of the same name on the island of Islay , founded by Archibald Campbell. This was closed from 1821 to 1823 and was merged with Lagavulin in 1837 . It has no relation to today's Ardmore distillery.

The water at the Council Area Highland distillery comes from springs on Knockandy Hill. It has a mash tun (12.5 t) made of stainless steel and 14 wooden fermentation vats (90,000 l each ) made of Douglas fir . Distillation takes place in four wash stills (15,000 l each) and four spirit stills (15,000 l each) which were heated by coal until April 2001 , but steam is now used.
