Arge cyanocrocea is a plant wasp fromthe brush horn sawfly family . It is one of 18 species of the genus in Germany.

features

The plant wasps reach a length of 7 to 8 millimeters. The head, thorax , shield and antennae are colored black. The abdomen is yellow. The anterior and middle femora are black. The posterior femora are yellow and have a black apical end. The yellow tibiae are blackish at the ends. The tarsi are black. In the resting position, the wings lie over the abdomen. The front two thirds of the wings appear transparent. A wide dark band characteristic of the species runs over the rear third. The black mark on the wing is level with this band. Behind the band, at the end of the wings, there is a slightly shaded area.

The larvae are colored light yellow-green on the upper side. The underside is whitish. The top of the larvae is covered with black dots. There is a row of larger black dots on each side. The head capsule is yellow.

Similar species

• Arge melanochroa - The posterior femora of the plant wasps are black; the forewings have a black spot at the level of the wing mark; the apical part of the wings is transparent.

distribution

The species is widespread in Europe. To the east their occurrence extends to Asia Minor , the Caucasus and Japan .

Way of life

The plant wasps can be seen from May to July. They feed on the pollen and nectar of various flowering plants such as ground elder , bearwort , meadow hogweed , milkweed and tansy .

The larvae feed on the leaves of various rose plants such as blackberries , raspberries and the Great Wiesenknopf .
