The argnidae are a worm - Family from the subordination of terrestrial snails (gastropod). The family includes almost 30 species, almost all of which are found south or east of the Alps. The oldest members of the family come from the Upper Miocene ( Palaeogene ).

features

The housings are relatively high, cylindrical to cylindrical-oval. They are mostly small, around 5 mm in size. Up to about 10 turns are formed. The postembryonic convolutions are usually ribbed or striped radially. The mouth of the adult case is raised slightly from the plane of the winding. The upper edge is almost straight, but mostly not parallel to the seams of the earlier turns. The edge can be bent or slightly expanded. Teeth or lamellae can protrude into the mouth. The penis and epiphallus are formed in the genital apparatus. However, there is no blind sac ( caecum ) on the penis or epiphallus. In the penis, at the transition to the epiphallus, there are small tubercles on the inner wall. A penile attachment is well developed. The stem of the spermathec has no morphologically visible glands. A pedicle diverticulum may be present or absent.

Geographical distribution and way of life

The types of families are native to the southern and eastern Alps, the Carpathian Mountains, Spain, Italy, southern France, Switzerland and Greece. They live in forests under fallen leaves, moss, soil mulms and between and under stones in rather damp habitats. Many species occur in montane areas.
