The Argonaute was the lead ship of the Argonaute class , a class of five submarines in the French Navy during World War II . The Argonaute class was the first construction lot of the 630-ton type . The name of the boat goes back to the heroes of the ancient Greek Argonaut legend.
The Argonaute was sunk on November 8, 1942 during the Allied landings in North Africa off Oran by the two British destroyers Achates and Westcott .
