The University of Bolton Stadium is the football stadium of the English football club Bolton Wanderers and is located in Horwich , Greater Manchester , outside Bolton .
history
The modern football arena, in which there are only seats, offers space for 28,723 spectators and replaced the old Burnden Park in 1997 . This initially met with rejection from most fans, as a reminder of the traditional Burnden Park, the street to which the stadium is adjacent was finally renamed Burnden Way.
Reebok Stadium got its name from the main sponsor of Bolton Wanderers, sporting goods manufacturer Reebok . After 17 years, the namesake did not extend the expiring contract. From July 2014, the Wanderers' venue was named Macron Stadium for four years . The new namesake was the Italian sporting goods manufacturer Macron , which has since acted as an outfitter for the Bolton Wanderers.
On August 1, 2018, the Bolton Wanderers announced that the University of Bolton would be the new namesake of the venue and will be called the University of Bolton Stadium in the future .
use
The English football club Bolton Wanderers has played its home games at the University of Bolton Stadium since the opening of the 0-0 draw between Bolton Wanderers and Everton on September 1, 1997. The facility also serves as a location for various cultural events, such as B. Concerts , a hotel with appropriate facilities such as conference rooms is also located on the stadium grounds. It is also often used as a venue for English rugby international matches . It is unusual that both teams run onto the field from two different exits on either side of the center line.
At the end of January 2019, the Wanderers Stadium was selected as one of the venues for the Rugby League World Cup 2021 . For the first time, the men's, women's and wheelchair tournaments will be held simultaneously. Two men's games, including a quarter-finals, are planned.
