The Rodney Parade is a rugby - and football stadium in the Welsh city of Newport , United Kingdom . The sports facility is located on the east bank of the Usk River and is home to the rugby union clubs Newport RFC and Newport Gwent Dragons as well as the AFC Newport County football club .

The facility offers space for 11,676 spectators, with soccer the number is limited to 7,850 visitors. It has two covered stands, the Hazell Stand to the west and the Bisley Stand to the east . In the north of the stadium there is an uncovered grandstand and in the south, next to the changing rooms for the players and a media center, there is a small uncovered seating grandstand for the fans of the visiting team ( Sytner stand ).

history

In 1875 the Newport Athletic Club was founded, which two years later secured the use of land at Lord Tredegar's Rodney Parade. The club used the land for games and training for its cricket , tennis , and rugby teams . From 1901 to 1934 the Monmouthshire County Cricket Club used the stadium for its games. The AFC Newport County has played its home games in Rodney Parade since 2012.

Average attendance and visitor record

The numbers refer to AFC Newport County's games. On January 27, 2018, 9,836 spectators came to the game in the FA Cup 2017/18 against Tottenham Hotspur . Additional grandstands were built for the game.
