The Bescot Stadium is a football stadium in the district of Bescot Cresent in the city of Walsall , England . Since May 9, 2007, it has been named Banks's Stadium after Marston's Beer Company . This contract has a term of eleven years. In 1990 FC Walsall moved from Fellows Park , where the club played from 1896 to 1900 and from 1901 to 1990, to the new Bescot Stadium.

history

Construction of the venue began in June 1989 and lasted until July 1990. On 18 August 1990, the official opening of the new home was Saddlers of Sir Stanley Matthews completed. On this occasion, FC Walsall and Aston Villa met . The friendly game ended in front of 9,551 spectators with a 4-0 victory for the guests. The club president at the time, Barry Blower, played a major role in making it come true. Originally, the Bescot Stadium was equipped with two grandstands along the playing field and standing room in the back gate. In 1992 the guest stand in the south was also equipped with plastic seats. In 2003 the new north stand (until 2005 Purple Stand ) was opened. The two-storey building is visible from afar and towers over the three flat tiers. Today the Banks's Stadium offers 11,300 seats and disabled places. There are over 1,000 parking spaces for visitors around the sports facility.

The stadium is equipped with several conference and event rooms. In these rooms numerous events such as B. concerts, celebrations, weddings, exhibitions, fashion shows or boxing events.

Attendance record

Most of the visitors to a soccer game came on May 9, 2004 for the game Walsall FC versus Rotherham United . The Division One encounter saw 11,049 spectators.

Other use

The English men's B national soccer team played against Switzerland in May 1991 . In front of the then record crowd of 10,628 spectators, the English team won 2-1. The women's national and Scottish women's teams played at Bescot Stadium in 1993. There were also games by the English national junior team. The Aston Villa Reserves team plays their winter games in the Walsall FC stadium.
