Francisco Austregésilo de Mesquita Filho

Francisco Austregésilo de Mesquita Filho (born March 4, 1924 in Reriutaba , † October 7, 2006 in Recife ) was a Brazilian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Afogados da Ingazeira .

Life

He studied philosophy and theology in Fortaleza from 1946 to 1951 . He was ordained a priest on December 8, 1951 . He worked as rector at the seminary in Sobral and as professor of theological studies there.

On May 25, 1961 he was by Pope John XXIII. appointed second bishop of Afogados da Ingazeira . He received the episcopal ordination on August 24th of the same year by his predecessor João José da Mota e Albuquerque , Bishop of Sobral . Co- consecrators were the coadjutor Archbishop of Maceió , Adelmo Cavalcante Machado , and the Bishop of Garanhuns , Juvéncio de Brito . His motto was: Ut vitam habeant ("So that they have life").

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. During the council he also signed the Catacomb Pact . In addition, he completed a journalistic training and was a long-time presenter of the radio show "Nossa Palavra" ( Our Message ). He was very committed to his region and local people, especially those in a poorer financial position.

On June 13, 2001, Pope Johannes Paull II accepted his age-appropriate resignation.
