The diocese Afogados da Ingazeira was on July 2, 1956 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Qui volente Deo from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Pesqueira and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Olinda e Recife as a suffragan .
