Albrecht Haupt (musician)

Albrecht Haupt (born December 7, 1929 in Bonn ) is a German church musician .

Life

Albrecht main studied at the University Jena and Leipzig first music science and art history , then at the Leipziger music academy sacred music with a focus organ and conducting. Thomas organist Karl Richter , Thomaskantor Günther Ramin and Professor Diethard Hellmann shaped him in particular . He later moved to the Musikhochschule Stuttgart , Esslingen (to Hans Arnold Metzger) and the University of Tübingen . He passed the A exam and was appointed cantor of the Martin Luther Church in Ulm in 1958 and later also district cantor. Haupt held this position until he retired in 1995.

Albrecht Haupt is a brother of the German biologist and university professor Wolfgang Haupt .

Church music director

As the district choirmaster of the Evangelical Church District of Ulm , Albrecht Haupt was awarded the title of Church Music Director. He led the choirs and ensembles of the Martin Luther Church and performed many important oratorical works there, especially the cantatas and oratorios of Johann Sebastian Bach , but also many other works from baroque to modern. Since 1959 he has been head of the "Ulmer Kantorei", which is now organized in an association and independent of the Martin Luther Church, an office which he held well beyond his retirement until 2018. All the major oratorical works were performed under his aegis.

University Music Director

In 1976 Haupt founded the university choir at Ulm University . In 1991 he was awarded the title of University Music Director. Many works of the oratorio literature of the 20th century were premiered in Ulm or South German under his direction, for example works by Leoš Janáček , Béla Bartók , Carl Orff and Leonard Bernstein .
