Arild Edvin Sandvold (born June 2, 1895 - † August 12, 1984 ) was a Norwegian composer and organist.

life and work

From 1906 Sandvold studied piano, organ and music theory at the Kristiana Conservatory . He also studied at the Conservatory for Music in Leipzig in the twenties , where he also took composition . However, this was not his main activity - Sandvold was primarily a church musician - u. a. at Oslo Cathedral - and music teacher who taught at the Oslo Conservatory from 1917 to 1969 .

With an interest in both Baroque and Romantic organ music , he attempted to construct organs that supported both styles, including electro-pneumatic instruments.

His work includes many organ and choral works, in which he used the polyphony of the late Baroque and harmonies of the Romantic period as the basis of his style.

Sandvold was the conductor of the oratorio choir Cæciliaforeningen in Oslo between 1928 and 1957 .
