Cæciliaforeningen (German: Cäcilienverein ) is a Norwegian oratorio choir , founded in 1879 by Thorvald Lammers based on an idea by Edvard Grieg . The choir is Norway's oldest of its kind. Over the decades, the choir has premiered many of the most important choral symphonic works in music literature in Norway, including Bach's Christmas Oratorio in 1883 . The choir has repeatedly premiered newly written works by Norwegian composers, most recently Reach Out For Peace by the world-famous old master of Norwegian choral music Knut Nystedt .

Conductors

Guest conductors in the first few years included Johan Svendsen , Edvard Grieg , Johan Halvorsen , Iver Holter , Christian Sinding and Karl Straube .
