Aristomenis Provelengios (politician)

Aristomenis Provelengios ( Greek Αριστομένης Προβελέγγιος , * 1850 in Exampela on Sifnos ; † 1936 on Sifnos) was a Greek politician , poet, dramatist and member of the Academy of Athens .

Provelengios studied at the University of Athens and in Germany at the University of Munich as well as in Leipzig and Jena . In Greece he went into politics after his studies and was elected as a member of the Greek parliament .

He also wrote lyrical poems and dramas in the form of Katharevousa and was awarded a prize for art and literature for his work. He translated Goethe's Faust and Lessing's Laocoon into modern Greek. In 1926 he was elected a member of the Academy of Athens .
