Komsomolets Island: scrap metal and oil barrels at Cape Arktichesky

The Arctic Cape (also Arctic Cape , russian Мыс Арктический Mys Arktitscheski ) is the northernmost point of the Severnaya Zemlya - archipelago .

location

Cape Arktitscheski is located on Komsomolets Island , which belongs to the Severnaya Zemlya group of islands in the Arctic Ocean .

Due to the distance to the North Pole of 990.7 km, the cape occasionally serves as a starting point for expeditions to the North Pole.

Occasionally Cape Arktitscheski is mentioned as the northernmost point of Russia and thus Eurasia . However, this award goes to Cape Fligely on Franz Josef Land . Since Franz-Josef-Land is usually counted as part of Europe, Cape Arktitscheski is the northernmost point of Asia (see also Cape Tscheljuskin ).
