Arlene McCarthy

Arlene McCarthy (born October 10, 1960 in Belfast , Northern Ireland ) is a British politician ( Labor Party ). Since the European elections in 1994 she has been a member of the European Parliament ( PES Group).

Life

She studied in London , Manchester , Stuttgart and Clermont-Ferrand and was a visiting research fellow in Berlin . From 1989 to 1992 she worked for the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, and from 1991 to 1992 she was a lecturer in political science at the Free University of Berlin . Then she was European Commissioner in the Kirklees District Council until 1994. Since 1994 she has been a member of the Labor Party for the British Northwest in the European Parliament. She chairs the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and is a member of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly of the EU and the ACP Group .

The MP became known primarily in the context of the directive on software patents . In June 2002 she published a report that was very committed to the patents.
